Former Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee needs a “perfect fit” to pitch in 2016

According to some reports this offseason, it sounded like former Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee had a good amount of interest in pitching in 2016 and that a good number of teams had interest in Lee, too.  But, Lee's return to the Majors may not be so cut and dry after all.   According to Lee's agent, Lee seems to consider himself retired and will only come back to the Major Leagues if the fit is just right.

Darek Braunecker, Lee's agent, seemed to give the impression on "The Front Office" on MLB Network Radio early on Sunday that Lee is lukewarm about making a comeback, but there is plenty of interest in his client.   Lee's approach to his agent was to let the market play out, and bring the information back to Lee.    Braunecker says there is "an enormous amount of interest" and "clubs continue to check in on the status".

Lee is working out and has begun his full offseason throwing program.  "Early on it appears he is going to be a healthy commodity going forward".  But, Braunecker said, Lee has young children and is considering calling it a career.

Braunecker said that he may not do a full showcase for teams, believing that with the large amount of interest they can make an appointment on a case by case basis.
