Former Voice of the Phillies, Eagles, Sixers, and Warriors Bill Campbell Passes Away

Prior to 1971 when someone named Harry Kalas came to town, Bill Campbell was the voice of the Phillies.   Campbell never left Philadelphia and was well-known to even those who did not hear him call Phillies games.   Today, Campbell died at age 91.

Campbell had a long and celebrated career in Philadelphia sports.  His career included:

• Philadelphia Warriors voice from 1946-1962 (before they moved)
• Philadelphia Eagles voice from 1952-1966
• Philadelphia Phillies voice from 1963-1970
• Philadelphia 76ers voice from 1973-1981

While with the Eagles, Campbell called the team's 1960 championship.  With the Warriors, Campbell called Wilt Chamberlain's 100 point game in 1962.

Campbell spent time as a sports host on 610 WIP from 1987-1991 and then contributed sports commentary to KYW 1060.  For his impressive resume, Campbell was inducted to the Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame in 1999 and was named person of the year in 2008.
