Francoeur appears in relief as Phillies are routed in series finale against Orioles

Baltimore, MD – History was made tonight at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, in the series finale between the Philadelphia Phillies (22-44) and the Baltimore Orioles (33-31), in more ways than one.

Having allowed 19 runs tonight in their defeat against right hander Chris Tillman, the Phillies found themselves being outscored in the series 51-14, and outhomered 17-1.

The following is a timeline of the series of events which transpired in tonight's game.

Game Timeline

First Inning

• On the second pitch in the bottom of the first, third baseman Manny Machado homers (12) to left field. 1-0 BAL
• Five batters later, with the bases loaded and one out, shortstop J.J. Hardy singles-home left fielder Travis Snider from third base. Second baseman Ryan Flaherty follows with a two-RBI single. 4-0 BAL
• Jerome Williams throws two wild pitches in at-bat against center fielder David Lough. Hardy, Flaherty both score.  Williams suffers injury at home plate and exits game to what was later announced to be a strained left hamstring. 6-0 BAL

Second Inning

• Machado homers (13) to lead off inning for second time in game. 7-0 BAL
• Two batters later, designated hitter Jimmy Paredes homers (7). Later in the inning, right fielder Chris Parmelee hits first career home run. 9-0 BAL

Third Inning

• Shortstop Freddy Galvis picks up Phillies' first hit of the night, a one-out single.
• Lough homers (3) with two runners on. 12-0 BAL

Fourth Inning

• Odubel Herrera hits 14th double of season to start inning.
• Four batters later, with runners on the corners, right fielder Domonic Brown singles to pick up his first run-batted-in since September 25, 2014 against the Miami Marlins. 12-1 BAL
• Chris Davis homers (14) to begin bottom of the fourth. 13-1 BAL

Fifth Inning

• Snider doubles for seventh time of season to score Machado, who walked in the previous at-bat, from first. 14-1 BAL

Sixth Inning

• After Herrera walks, third baseman Maikel Franco homers (7). 14-3 BAL
• Parmelee hits second career home run in his major league debut.  15-3 BAL
• Reliever Justin DeFratus ejected by home plate umpire for pitching near Orioles' Hardy.
• With runners on the corners and two outs, Machado singles-home Hardy. 16-3 BAL
• Snider doubles for second time of game, and eighth time of season, to score Lough from third. 17-3 BAL

Seventh Inning

• Phillies outfielder Jeff Francoeur enters game as a reliever, his first career major league appearance on the mound.
• The first batter he faces, Francoeur strikes out pinch-hitter Nolan Reimold on three pitches.

• Francoeur gets Parmelee to ground out, and second baseman Steve Pearce to line-out. This was the Phillies' first and only 1-2-3 inning of the game.

Eighth Inning

• Flaherty hits a solo home run (3) for his third run-batted-in of the night. 18-3 BAL
• After Francoeur hits Lough and allows walks to catcher Matt Wieters and Snider, Paredes hits sacrifice fly-RBI to left field 19-3 BAL

• Brown begins final frame with a single, his second hit of the game.
• Asche grounds into force out, and catcher Carlos Ruiz grounds into double play to end game.
