The 6-foot-6-inch, 340-pound prospect originally signed with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights during the 2024-25 recruiting cycle and was a January 2025 enrollee. A top state of New Jersey prospect, Matthews took part in Rutgers’ spring practices before surprisingly entering the transfer portal.
As a three-star high school recruit, Matthews chose Rutgers over 30 other offers including Florida State. The 19th ranked New Jersey prospect according to 247 Sports will have four-year of eligibility remaining in Tallahassee.
