Jan 11, 2025; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Jamie Drysdale (9) reacts after scoring a goal against the Anaheim Ducks in the first period at Wells Fargo Center.

It was just over a year ago that the Flyers traded Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks. From that point on, the first matchup at Wells Fargo Center between the two had been circled. From the Flyers perspective, it didn’t disappoint.

The Flyers opened up an early lead and poured it on, defeating the Ducks, 6-0, on Saturday night.

The Flyers came out with plenty of energy and turned that into the first goal of the game. Morgan Frost redirected a centering pass from Travis Konecny for his ninth goal of the season to make it 1-0 at 6:48.

On a power play late in the period, the Flyers added to the lead. Jamie Drysdale took a feed from Konecny and beat John Gibson for his second goal of the season with 1:49 left in the first.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 14-7 Flyers.

The Flyers added to the lead late in the second. Owen Tippett finished off a two-on-one chance for his 13th goal of the season to make it 3-0 at 16:19.

Through two periods, shots were 19-14 Flyers.

The Flyers broke things open in the third. Ryan Poehling scored off the rush just 24 seconds into the period for his fourth goal of the season. On a power play at 7:36, Matvei Michkov got on the board with his 13th goal of the season to make it 5-0. Just over a minute later at 8:55, Garnet Hathaway scored on a rebound to make it 6-0.

Sam Ersson finished with 22 saves in the shutout. Gibson made 24 saves on 30 shots.

Konecny had four assists. Tippett, Frost, Poehling, Hathaway, and Drysdale each had two points.

The Flyers get back on the ice and close out the four-game homestand on Monday night against the Florida Panthers at 7 p.m.
