Flyers Trade Farabee, Frost to Flames for Kuzmenko, Pelletier, 2 Picks

At the end of the second period of the Flyers fourth loss in five games, the main story shifted from on the ice to off it quickly. That was when trade rumors started swirling around a possible connection between the Flyers and Calgary Flames.
That trade is now official. The Flyers traded forwards Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost to the Flames in exchange for forwards Andrei Kuzmenko and Jakob Pelletier, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2028 seventh-round pick.
Frost, 25, was a first-round pick of the Flyers in 2017. In 277 career games, Frost scored 50 goals and had 135 points. This season, Frost had 11 goals and 25 points in 48 games.
Farabee, 24, was a first-round pick of the Flyers in 2018. In 383 career games, Farabee scored 90 goals and had 201 points. This season, he had eight goals and 19 points in 49 games.
Kuzmenko, 28, has played in 190 career games with Vancouver and Calgary. The 5’11”, 194-pound forward has 65 goals and 135 points in his career. This season, with Calgary, Kuzmenko scored four goals and had 15 points in 37 games. The Russian also spent time in the KHL and was a teammate of Matvei Michkov with SKA St. Petersburg.
Pelletier, 23, was a first-round pick of the Flames in 2019. In 60 career games, he has eight goals and 21 points. This season, the 5’9”, 170-pound forward had four goals and 11 points in 23 games with Calgary.
There is no salary retention in the trade. Farabee has three more full seasons remaining on his contract after this season with a 5 million cap hit. Frost is a restricted free agent after this season with a $2.1 million cap hit. Kuzmenko is an unrestricted free agent after this season and carries a $5.5 million cap hit. Pelletier is a restricted free agent after this season and has an $800,000 cap hit.
