Entering the third period down by a goal against the Florida Panthers was essentially game over. Florida had a 16-0-0 record when leading after two periods entering Monday’s game.

Not anymore.

A pair of goals for Noah Cates were part of a three-goal third period that lifted the Flyers to a 4-3 win over the Panthers at Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers got the first power play of the game, but a turnover allowed the Panthers to get the first goal. Sam Reinhart went the other way off a turnover, worked through two defenders, and scored his 26th goal of the season shorthanded to make it 1-0 at 7:59.

At 9:34, the Panthers added to the lead as Uvis Balinskis took a shot that slipped through Sam Ersson to make it 2-0 Florida.

The Flyers were unable to convert on two power plays in the opening period. Through 20 minutes, shots were even, 7-7.

The Flyers came out with more jump in the second and out-shot the Panthers, 13-6. One of those shots found the net to cut the lead to one.

At 7:51, Garnet Hathaway‘s centering pass was deflected in by a Panthers defender for his fifth goal of the season to make it 2-1.

Through two periods, shots were 20-13 Flyers.

The Flyers got an early power play in the third and tied the game up. Cates put home a rebound for his eighth goal of the season to make it 2-2 at 2:01.

Just over a minute later, with Florida on a power play, Reinhart fired home his second goal of the game and 27th of the season to give the Panthers the 3-2 lead at 3:35.

The Flyers got another power play shortly after the Florida goal and used another power-play goal to tie the game. Morgan Frost poked home a rebound from the crease to make it 3-3 at 5:59.

The Flyers got the lead for the first time with 5:51 to play. Cates scored his second, winning a race to a loose puck, controlling it from his glove to his stick, and going to the backhand on a breakaway to beat Sergei Bobrovsky for his ninth of the season to make it 4-3.

Ersson took care of the rest, erasing a turnover by Frost with four saves in a late sequence to protect the one-goal lead. Ersson made 20 saves on 23 shots in the win. Bobrovsky made 25 saves on 29 shots in the loss.

The Flyers are right back on the ice on Tuesday, as they hit the road against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7 p.m.
