Flyers Quick Strikes Set Record in Win Over Devils

For the first eight minutes of the game, it appeared the Flyers were having another one of those starts. Then a record-setting scoring barrage changed the game.

After tying the game, the Flyers scored three goals in 26 seconds to open up a three-goal lead. Then, on a night when they honored the memory of the most legendary goalie in franchise history, their goaltender delivered another quality performance to secure the 6-3 win over the New Jersey Devils.

The Flyers got off to another slow start. An early power play allowed the Devils to open up an 8-1 lead in shots. The eighth shot found the net, as Timo Meier stayed with a third-chance opportunity and scored his sixth of the season to make it 1-0 at 7:37.

The Flyers had a quick response. Noah Cates scored his fifth goal of the season on a rebound at the nine-minute mark of the period to make it 1-1.

Some Flyers history followed in the minutes after. The Flyers set a new franchise record for the fastest three goals in franchise history, scoring three in 26 seconds.

At 12:06, Matvei Michkov got a breakaway and scored his fifth of the season to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead. Just nine seconds later, Tyson Foerster scored on a one-timer to make it 3-1. Just 17 seconds after that, Foerster scored another goal, as a shot went off the arm of Jake Allen and in to make it 4-1 on Foerster’s seventh of the season.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 10-9 Flyers.

The Flyers extended the lead at 11:42 of the second. Bobby Brink went top shelf on Allen for his sixth goal of the season to make it 5-1.

The Devils got one back at 16:16 of the second. Nico Hischier finished off a one-timer for his fifth goal of the season.

Through two periods, shots were 22-20 New Jersey.

The Devils cut the lead to two at 13:27. Simon Nemec had his point shot tipped by Hischier to make it a 5-3 game.

Less than two minutes later, Trevor Zegras iced the game with a breakaway goal, his seventh of the season to make it 6-3.

Dan Vladar made 32 saves on 35 shots in the win. Allen made 23 saves on 29 shots in the loss.

Cates had a goal and two assists. Foerster and Sean Couturier each had two points, Hischier and Jesper Bratt each had three points for the Devils.

The Flyers hit the road for a four-game road trip, starting on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7 p.m.
