ELMONT, NEW YORK - JANUARY 24: Brock Nelson #29 of the New York Islanders scores a second period goal against the Philadelphia Flyersduring their game at UBS Arena on January 24, 2025 in Elmont, New York.

Just like on Thursday night, the Flyers managed to get the game’s first goal. But after that, they were once again stymied and unable to finish on any chances.

The Islanders scored twice late in the first and added another in the second, as the Flyers fell for the second straight night, 3-1, on Friday night.

Shots were limited for most of the first period, but the Flyers finally broke through at 14:14 to open the scoring. Tyson Foerster finished off his 13th of the season on a two-on-one to make it 1-0.

The Islanders responded with two goals separated by just 55 seconds in the final three minutes of the period. Anthony Duclair scored his fourth of the season at 17:08 to even things at one. Then, Bo Horvat scored off a two-on-one for his 17th of the season to make it 2-1.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 7-6 Flyers.

The one-goal lead held up for most of the second. Then another rush in transition allowed the Islanders to extend the lead. Brock Nelson beat Ivan Fedotov with a wrist shot from the right circle to make it 3-1 on his 14th of the season.

Through two periods, shots were 19-14 Islanders.

The Flyers came out firing early in the third, but were quickly contained by the Islanders for most of the remainder of the period. They were unable to beat Ilya Sorokin for the remainder of the game as the Islanders locked down the result.

Sorokin made 29 saves on 30 shots in the win. Fedotov made 24 saves on 27 shots in the loss.

Nelson had a goal and an assist, while Kyle Palmieri had two assists for the Islanders.

The Flyers are back on the ice on Monday night against the New Jersey Devils at 7 p.m.
