About a month ago, it was a distinct possibility that the Flyers could be on the other end of a historical NHL moment. Alex Ovechkin‘s chase for Wayne Gretzky‘s goal record was very much on track to be broken on Thursday night.

Now, Ovechkin is still seven goals away from tying the record, so he will not break that mark against the Flyers, but the pursuit continues as the Flyers visit the Washington Capitals.

Game time is 7 p.m.

Flyers Capitals Team Leaders

Flyers Capitals Players to Watch

Matvei Michkov has been quiet in the last several games, going five straight without a point. He has, however, risen to the occasion against the Capitals. In three games against the Capitals this season, Michkov has three goals and five points, including a two-goal game against Washington on Feb. 6.

Alex Ovechkin has seen his push for Gretzky’s record slow down of late, with two goals in the last six games, but is closing in on history. In the meantime, Ovechkin has five assists in the last four games, helping the Capitals maintain their success.

Flyers Capitals Goalie Matchup

Ivan Fedotov is expected to get the start for the Flyers. Fedotov made 21 saves on 22 shots in a loss to the Lightning on Monday night. Despite losing four straight starts, Fedotov has allowed nine goals in that time, making 86 saves on 95 shots.

Charlie Lindgren gets the start for the Capitals. Lindgren allowed three goals on 27 shots in his last start against the Los Angeles Kings last Thursday. Lindgren has two wins against the Flyers this season, making 17 saves on 18 shots on Oct. 22 and stopping 19 of 22 shots on Feb. 6.
