ChiSox Luis Robert Jr. Remains on Phillies’ Radar

In a rumor that refuses to go away, the Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly still interested in Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr., according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon. The name should sound familiar to Phillies fans. Philadelphia explored a potential deal for Robert at the trade deadline last season, but nothing materialized.

Instead, the Phillies pivoted to Harrison Bader, a move that ultimately paid dividends down the stretch. Still, the continued buzz surrounding Robert suggests the organization remains focused on adding impact power, particularly from the outfield.

Robert’s appeal is obvious when healthy. Over his six-year MLB career, the 28-year-old has compiled 102 home runs and 102 stolen bases in 577 games, along with a .259 batting average, .313 on-base percentage, and .455 slugging percentage. His breakout 2023 season — when he launched 38 home runs in 145 games, earned All-Star honors, and captured a Silver Slugger — highlighted his five-tool potential.

While his 2025 production dipped, it remained intriguing. Robert appeared in 110 games, hitting .223 with 14 home runs, 53 RBIs, and a career-high 33 stolen bases, showcasing a rare blend of speed and power. That skill set would seemingly translate well to Citizens Bank Park, where right-handed power often plays up.

However, the red flags are hard to ignore. Injuries have consistently limited Robert’s availability. Outside of the shortened 2020 season, he has played 145 games or more just once in his career. Durability concerns have followed him throughout his tenure in Chicago and remain the primary reason teams have been hesitant to meet the White Sox’s asking price.

For the Phillies, a renewed pursuit would come down to risk versus reward. Robert Jr. offers game-changing upside and middle-of-the-order power, but his injury history makes any deal a calculated gamble. If healthy, he could be a transformative addition. If not, the cost could outweigh the reward.
