Philadelphia Phillies Select RHP Zach McCambley in 2025 Rule 5 Draft
The Philadelphia Phillies have added right-handed pitcher Zach McCambley, 26, from the Miami Marlins in the 2025 MLB Rule 5 Draft. McCambley, a seasoned minor league arm, now has a direct path to the Phillies’ major league roster in 2026, as Rule 5 selections must remain on the 26-man roster for the season or be offered back to their original team.
McCambley comes off the best season of his professional career. Splitting time between Double-A and Triple-A, he posted a 2.90 ERA with a 1.097 WHIP and struck out 12.0 batters per nine innings. His consistent strikeout ability and command at both levels made him a highly appealing target for the Phillies, who are hoping he can contribute immediately at the big league level.
The Rule 5 Draft is designed to prevent teams from stockpiling minor league talent. Players who have spent a set number of years in the minors and aren’t on a club’s 40-man roster become eligible. Teams selecting a player must keep him on their major league roster for the entire season or offer him back to his original team.
