Report: George ‘Consulting Doctors’ on Treatment Options for Knee, Groin Injuries

Paul George’s season appears to be nearing an end. According to a report from Shams Charania of ESPN, George is “consulting with doctors” about treatment options for both his groin and knee injuries. One of the options includes a possible procedure.

George has been limited to playing in just one out of the Philadelphia 76ers’ previous six games due to what has been labeled as “groin soreness.” He has been dealing with groin issues for the past few months. The injury then flared up back on March 1 against the Golden State Warriors. George missed the next game before returning against the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, he left the game early because of the groin injury. He has yet to return to the floor since the Minnesota game back on March 4.
While the groin injury has been the more recent issue for George, it is not reassuring to see Charania’s report also mention his knee. George suffered bone bruises to the same knee both in the preseason and in November. He missed some time and has been seen wearing a knee brace at different points throughout the season.
George has largely been a disappointment when he has been on the floor this season. He averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 43.0% from the field and 35.8% from 3-point range. The nine-time All-Star failed to play up to the massive four-year, $211.6 million contract he signed with the Philadelphia last offseason.
The Sixers are sitting at a 22-43 record with 17 games left on the schedule. Considering George’s injuries and the Sixers’ current situation, the team should shut George down for the remainder of the season.
