Report: Kelly Oubre Jr. Accepts $8.4 Million Player Option to Remain With 76ers
Kelly Oubre Jr. has picked up his player option worth $8.4 million to remain with the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2025-26 season. Shams Charania of ESPN was first to report the news.
Oubre, who originally signed with Philadelphia late in the 2023 offseason, has been one of the Sixers’ most consistent sources of production over the past couple of years. He averaged 15.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game last season. Having a player who can put up those kinds of numbers at just over $8 million is solid value for the Sixers.
While Oubre has accepted his player option, it is not a guarantee he will be on the Sixers’ roster to begin next season. The Sixers are in need of salary cap flexibility this offseason. One possible route to gaining financial flexibility involves trading Oubre, along with multiple smaller salaries, in a package either to dump salary or bring in a more valuable player.
Barring any potential trade involving Oubre this offseason, he should continue to slot in as the Sixers’ starting small forward. He is a versatile forward who made significant improvements on the defensive side of the floor. Despite Oubre’s poor outside shooting (29.3% from 3-point range last season), he brings a lot of positives to the table.
With Andre Drummond and Oubre having accepted their player options, Eric Gordon is the lone Sixers player who has not made a decision on his option. Free agency officially begins on Monday at 6 p.m.
