Report: Monty Williams, Brett Brown discussing Sixers assistant role

Although everything at this point that comes out in the news other than an update on the Bryan Colangelo secret Twitter account situation seems irrelevant at this time, business within the organization must still go on as normal.

The Sixers are in search of a new top assistant coach to their staff to replace longtime assistant Lloyd Pierce, who was hired by the Atlanta Hawks to fill their head coaching position just a couple weeks ago. 

On Wednesday night, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Monty Williams, former head coach of the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans (2010-2015) and current Vice President of Basketball Operations of the San Antonio Spurs, was in talks with Sixers head coach Brett Brown about the team's top assistant position.

Williams has been coaching around the NBA since 2005 in various roles, becoming a front office member with the Spurs in 2016.

The Brett Brown connection with the Spurs exists here, especially with his relationship with longtime head coach Gregg Popovich, who coached Williams from 1996-1998 and now coaches under him.

Brown is looking for a viable, trustworthy candidate to replace Pierce and add to his coaching staff, especially after inking a 3-year contract extension on Tuesday.
