Last week, Sixers GM Bryan Colangelo announced that rookie forward Ben Simmons would be out for the rest of the season with the foot fracture he suffered during the preseason.

Today, Simmons underwent a procedure to put bone marrow in the fracture site to help increase the healing time of the fracture.

Simmons has had a rough first season with the Sixers. He was initially injured at the end of September, and just a couple months ago, officials said Simmons was healed and would be close to making his debut with the team.

The Sixers have had bad luck with their first-round draft picks in recent seasons with only Jahlil Okafor playing the season after being drafted. Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid, and now Simmons have missed the entire season after being drafted by Philly.

This procedure for Simmons is pretty standard for an injury like this. It doesn't come as a surprise, and hopefully it will help the healing progress a lot faster and get the 2016 first overall pick to the court by the start of next season.
