Streak Stopper: Lee blows four-run lead, Brewers walk off

In six of his seven wins this season, Cliff Lee has stopped a losing streak for the Phillies. This time, several factors, one being a poor decision on Charlie Manuel's part, ended a winning streak, even with Lee on the mound.

The Phillies gave Lee a sizable lead, one that certainly feels like enough for the veteran lefty. But as Lee has proved in the past, you can't settle after the early innings.

The Brewers chipped away and used the home dimensions and an error to knot the score in the seventh. With the Phillies floundering to counter the Brewers, they would let a potential win slip away, ending their winning streak at five games with a 5-4 loss to the Brewers on Friday night at Miller Park.

John Mayberry Jr. doubled with one out in the first. That helped the Phillies get on the board from the start with an RBI single by Jimmy Rollins.

The Phillies padded the lead in the third. Domonic Brown doubled with one out. He scored on an RBI single by Delmon Young. Erik Kratz followed with a two-run home run, his eighth of the season.

That's when the game turned for the Phillies. Lee couldn't manage a shutdown inning, allowing a pair of runs to score in the fourth, one on an RBI double by Yuniesky Betancourt.

The Phillies would carry that two-run lead through six innings. Lee was up to 101 pitches at the time. But Charlie Manuel elected to stay with Lee for the seventh. He walked Norichika Aoki to lead off the inning before Jean Segura tripled him home. Freddy Galvis' throw to the plate was off-line, allowing Segura to score on an error as well.

The eighth and ninth went without any offense from the Phillies. In the eighth, the Phillies had two runners on with one out after Ryan Howard was hit by a pitch and a walk to Brown. But Delmon Young grounded into an inning-ending double play on the first pitch from Burke Badenhop, ending the threat.

Milwaukee would take the game in the ninth. After Aoki grounded out for the first out of the ninth, Segura reached on an infield single. Braun followed with a single, moving Segura to third. The Brewers won the game on a walk-off single by Aramis Ramirez.

The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for the Phillies and drops them back to .500 at 31-31. The Phillies will try to rebound on Saturday night in the third of four games against the Brewers. Kyle Kendrick starts against Tom Gorzelanny.
