The Vancouver Canucks come in with a modest 3-3-1 record in the first seven games of their season, including the 5-4 shootout victory in Philadelphia on Oct. 15. The Flyers will be looking for a different result as they look to build on Wednesday’s win.
While the Flyers didn’t win the game, you certainly sensed the new energy with so many new faces. But you also got another sign of how chemistry may be instantaneous among teammates off the ice, but can take some time on it. It’s only one game, and there’s no reason to overreact to anything that happened until the patterns persist.
The Flyers trailed by two late in the third before rallying back for two goals in 65 seconds to tie things up. They ultimately fell in the shootout, 5-4, to the Vancouver Canucks in Friday’s season opener.
The Flyers open things up on Friday night at Wells Fargo Center going against the Vancouver Canucks. After last season, it’s already refreshing for the Flyers to be facing a team from the Western Conference that they haven’t seen in quite some time. It also marks the first chance for this new group of players to make their mark on the team and start the season off on a positive note.
Travis Konecny had three assists in the Metropolitan Division’s 9-5 loss to the Atlantic Division. The Pacific Division claimed victory in the 3-on-3 tournament with a 5-4 win over the Atlantic in the final at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game in St. Louis.
Four games remain in this grueling November schedule for the Flyers, which closes out at the end of the week. It starts on Monday night with a visit from the Vancouver Canucks.
Oskar Lindblom tied the game with 5:02 to play in the third, helping the Flyers force overtime and keep their points streak alive at three games. But Jacob Markstrom and the Canucks got the last laugh in a 3-2 shootout win.
A three-game Western Canada trip begins on Saturday night as the Flyers face the Vancouver Canucks. Game time is at 10 p.m.
