Following an off day on Thanksgiving, the Flyers return to the ice to face the top team in the NHL, the Carolina Hurricanes, in the annual Black Friday game. The Flyers used the hot goaltending method to earn a 2-1 win against Carolina on the road earlier this month and they may need another one to salvage a week that certainly hasn’t been good so far.
Entering the third period on Friday night in Carolina, it was another similar case. Carolina had only one goal. Hart had 27 saves. This time, the Flyers gave him some run support, and Hart did the rest in a dominant performance that continued his hot start to the season.
Carter Hart kept the Flyers in another game, and this time his teammates rewarded the effort with two third-period goals in a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night.
The Carolina Hurricanes have set the tone for the Metropolitan Division. While every team seems to be hovering around where the Flyers are with a 6-3-2 record and 14 points, the Hurricanes sit at the top of the division with a 10-1-0 record and 20 points. A challenging weekend back-to-back on the road begins for the Flyers in Raleigh.
The Flyers 6-1 win over Toronto was their fifth straight, and carried some of the success from a 10-2-4 November over to the start of December.
The Flyers responded to a Toronto goal and retook the lead at the midpoint of the third period. They never looked back, adding four more goals down the stretch in a five-goal third period, securing a win on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Center against the Toronto Maple Leafs, 6-1, to extend their winning streak to five games.
The Flyers first opponent of December is a familiar one, a team they faced twice already during November. The Toronto Maple Leafs come back to Philadelphia for the final game of a three-game season series. The first two games went to a shootout with both teams getting one win.
Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier got goals in the shootout and Brian Elliott made two saves as the Flyers claimed a 3-2 win over the Maple Leafs.
The Flyers are now coming off two wins this week and have points in their last four games, as they travel north of the border to face the Toronto Maple Leafs.
A fortunate goal got the score even and somehow the game was tied after one period. From there, the Flyers played the dominant forechecking game they have proven to be capable of and actually kept the game in their favor for some time. They got the game to overtime, earned a solid point in the standings, before falling in a marathon shootout that went 11 rounds in a 4-3 defeat to Toronto.
