With August upon us, the Flyers still have not re-signed restricted free agents Ivan Provorov and Travis Konecny, two key pieces to their future. But the Flyers are not alone among teams still needing to sign key RFAs with just over a month until training camps open.
Last week, it was already known that the President’s Trophy winners, the Tampa Bay Lightning, were eliminated, as were the Pittsburgh Penguins. Six other teams have joined, and many of them were near the top of the regular-season standings.
The Metropolitan Division, featuring Flyers captain Claude Giroux, came away victorious at the 2019 NHL All-Star Game in San Jose on Saturday night, defeating the Atlantic Division in the semi-finals and the Central Division in the championship game.
On nights like these, you see that the Flyers have a work issue. It’s selective, turned on and off like a switch. It’s a big reason the team is as inconsistent as it gets. That’s a team-wide problem from coaching to players that will get them in trouble in the standings fast.
Colorado outworked the Flyers for the better part of 40 minutes, before the Flyers late push ultimately fizzled into nothing in a 4-1 loss to the Avalanche on Monday night.
The Flyers get a chance at a win in a rematch on Monday night, hosting the Avalanche to close out the season series. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
After an impressive opening night win in Vegas, the Flyers are back to take on the Colorado Avalanche in the second game of the season. Game time is set for 9 p.m.
