The Rangers opened the scoring at 10:20 of the first and never looked back in a 4-0 decision over the Flyers at Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers get right back on the ice on Wednesday night and face another playoff team in the New York Rangers.

Kevin Hayes scored in the third round of the shootout and Martin Jones capped off a strong game with a save on Filip Chytil to secure the Flyers first shootout win of the season, a 4-3 decision over the New York Rangers.

The Flyers moved Justin Braun at the trade deadline to the New York Rangers for a 2023 third-round pick. So was Derick Brassard, who heads to the Edmonton Oilers for a 2023 fourth-round pick.

It’s really become a familiar pattern for a team that is consistently fragile, just waiting for the next thing to go wrong rather than doing the things that can help it keep going right. Just like on Thursday night, the Rangers skill and talent levels became too much in a game that was certainly competitive, but not deserving of the final result.

The New York Rangers stormed right back to tie the game 37 seconds after the Flyers took the lead. Less than three minutes after that, they had the goal that decided the game, taking a 3-2 win on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Center to extend the Flyers losing streak to seven games. 

The next chance for the Flyers to end their current six-game losing streak comes on Saturday night against the New York Rangers. 

Alain Vigneault’s postgame press conference lasted about two and a half minutes. But it was his tone and clearly visible frustration that told the story. The Flyers coach and his staff may have received a vote of confidence of sorts from Fletcher just a day earlier, but the veteran bench boss knows when the ship is sinking and he becomes the first guy on the chopping block.
