The Flyers had some players looking to make good impressions do so in their second preseason game and certainly had veterans who showed some signs of midseason form. The takeaways from Monday’s 3-1 Flyers win over the Islanders in our Postgame Review.
Shayne Gostisbehere scored two power-play goals in the preseason home opener at Wells Fargo Center on Monday night in the Flyers 3-1 win over the New York Islanders.
The Flyers have returned three players to juniors: Matthew Strome, Maksim Sushko and Wyatte Wylie. In addition, goalie Liam Hughes was removed from his amateur tryout.
GM Ron Hextall provided an update on Sanheim on Monday, and the prognosis was fairly positive. Sanheim will miss one week with the injury.
The opponent remains the same on Monday night, but the Flyers come back to home ice for the first time. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
It was difficult to find many positives out of this game, a 3-0 loss for the Flyers to the Islanders, and an injury to Travis Sanheim only added to it.
The Islanders dressed more veterans and that paid off early with a pair of power-play goals in the first, carrying the Islanders to a 3-0 win over the Flyers in Sunday’s preseason opener at Nassau Coliseum.
The preseason gets underway on Sunday afternoon with a group of players taking the ice in Long Island as the Flyers go against the New York Islanders. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
