The Flyers did salvage a point out of this game against the much superior Columbus Blue Jackets, but it wasn’t the type of performance that will keep the new GM from action.

A miscommunication between Sean Couturier and Ivan Provorov and a lost board battle by Couturier set up the Blue Jackets for the game-winner, as Seth Jones scored his second goal of the game to give Columbus a 4-3 win over the Flyers on Thursday night at Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers need to channel the energy from a character win in Pittsburgh that was led by their goaltender, especially as they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets, a team challenging for the Metro Division lead. Game time is 7 p.m.

In Pittsburgh, though, the Flyers had one of their better wins of the season. It wasn’t a pretty win, but between Anthony Stolarz’s strong play in net and contributions up and down the lineup, the Flyers managed to hold off the Penguins and steal a win in a time when nothing is coming easy and emotions are certainly high.

A shorthanded goal by Dale Weise proved to be the game-winner as Anthony Stolarz earned his first NHL win in since April 1, 2017 as the Flyers defeated the Penguins, 4-2, on Saturday night.

The Flyers face the Pittsburgh Penguins, a team that has certainly had its struggles this season. But last season’s playoff series, when the Flyers were heavily outplayed by the Penguins, is still in recent memory.

It was a question five years ago and it remains one now. The Flyers need a fresh perspective. A look in the mirror should show that the dismissal of Ron Hextall isn’t the only change that needs to happen.

If anything was indicative in this game, it’s that the Flyers certainly know that a lot of change could lie in store, but the results aren’t going to change without max effort.

The Senators struck for three goals in 5:29 to turn the tables and take a 4-3 win from the Flyers on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Center.
