On Thursday night, Brian Elliott was on his game, making 38 saves, and on the right end of the result as well in a 3-1 Flyers win over the Blackhawks at Wells Fargo Center.
The Flyers will be looking for a bit of revenge, as they host the Chicago Blackhawks. The two teams met eight days ago in Chicago where the Blackhawks claimed a 3-0 shutout win. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The Flyers tried a change during training camp, moving Sean Couturier to the top line center spot and Claude Giroux to the wing. What started as an experiment is far from it now. Instead, it is a move that has worked wonders for Couturier and Giroux.
One thing that is a certainty for the Flyers is that they have a tough stretch of games coming up, with their next six games completing a stretch of 10 in a row against Western Conference opponents.
With their goaltending slowly coming together, the Philadelphia Flyers are still having trouble providing goal support for Michal Neuvirth.
After playing four of their last five games away from home, the Flyers return to Wells Fargo Center fresh off a shutout win in St. Louis. The Flyers host the Colorado Avalanche for the first of three straight games on home ice. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The youthful Flyers are being tested early and often this season. Despite the average 7-6-1 record, fans need to see the potential and growing process through the mistakes that are to be expected early on from rookies.
At 6-5-1, the Flyers have shown improved speed, depth, scoring and have remained competitive in games, certainly all you could ask from a team with borderline playoff expectations. But that good start will be put to the test as the calendar turns to November.
The Flyers defense has long been a puzzle to solve for the coaching and management staff. Now, just 12 games into the new campaign, the same puzzle has come to light once again due to a series of injuries on the Flyers’ blue line.
With two quick strikes, the Flyers managed to force overtime. That was certainly a moral victory, but the satisfaction of a late rally was put to bed in the final seconds of overtime as the Coyotes scored to win their first game of the season after all by a score of 4-3. Here is the Postgame Review.
