The Flyers have several players who are pending free agents at the end of the season and all of them are viable trade candidates. Here is a look at the five most likely Flyers to be moved on Wednesday.
A 4-0 win over the lowly Avalanche showed that the Flyers aren’t the lowest of the low in the NHL this season. That said, a win like this is only worth two points in the standings, leaving the Flyers with a lot more work to do if they want to make a playoff run, as unlikely as it is.
On the eve of the NHL trade deadline, the Philadelphia Flyers were in need of a victory against the league’s worst team to keep their playoff hopes within reason. However faint those hopes may be, the Flyers kept their slim chances alive with a 4-0 thumping of the Colorado Avalanche.
The Flyers are not trending upward like they were at this time last season. They are also running out of time, with 21 games to go, the trade deadline just two days away and the Eastern Conference being as competitive as ever with five teams within four points of each other and three points of a playoff spot. The Flyers are not one of those teams. At this point, it seems inevitable that the Flyers will not make the playoffs. And that may be for the better.
The trade deadline is Wednesday. The Flyers have only two games remaining prior to that March 1 deadline. GM Ron Hextall will have to make up his mind with only two more opportunities for the team to show him if they could be a playoff team or if he should look to unload pending free agents or other players if the right opportunity arises.
Wednesday’s Flyers loss to the Capitals was brought to you by the word frustration. After a big win on Sunday kept their dwindling playoff hopes alive, a loss to the superior Washington Capitals looked like the beginning of the end. Here are 10 Postgame Points from Flyers-Capitals.
The Capitals snapped a brief two-game losing streak while the Flyers fell farther in the playoff race, losing to Washington on Wednesday, 3-1, at Wells Fargo Center.
Much like last season, the Washington Capitals are taking a competitive Eastern Conference by storm, leading the way with 85 points in the standings. The Flyers have their work cut out for them heading into this matchup, as they look to keep fighting for a playoff spot as the season’s final 20 games rapidly approach.

When Flyers rookie forward Travis Konecny was injured there was immediate speculation as to who would get the call up from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Many fans were pleased to hear Jordan Weal was getting the call and would have his chance to make an impression on the Flyers brass.
