Former Phillies Closer Elected to National Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2025

Former Philadelphia Phillies closer Billy Wagner received the call every professional ball player wants to hear, a call to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Wagner, who pitched for the Phillies in 2004 and 2005, surpassed the 75% vote threshold receiving 82.5% of the vote from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America members. It was Wagner’s final year of eligibility on the ballot.
In 16 Big League seasons with Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Houston and New York (NL), Wagner totaled 422 saves with a career 2.31 ERA and earned seven All-Star selections. Wagner routinely touched triple-digits with his fastball to the thrill of the fans. He is most known for his nine years with the Astros which included appearances in four post season series.
Other enshrinees include Seattle Mariners legend Ichiro Suzuki and starting pitcher CC Sabathia. The duo was elected in their first year of eligibility. The trio will join the late Dick Allen who was finally selected for enshrinement as part of the Hall’s Classic Baseball Era Committee. The induction ceremony is set to take place the weekend of July 25-28 in Cooperstown.
