The Philadelphia Eagles are once again in need of a new offensive coordinator.

After one season with the Birds, offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has officially been named as the next head coach of the New Orleans Saints. Now, as the team and fans get ready to celebrate a Super Bowl championship, the front office and head coach Nick Sirianni are getting ready to make another important hire.

Here’s a look at potential names to keep an eye on as the Birds hunt for a new OC.

Criteria for the Next Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Coordinator

Familiarity with the Eagles offensive schemes and systems in place with running and passing games. Also, knowledgeable of offensive personnel strengths. An offensive coordinator who will incorporate the offensive weapons in a balanced offense. Utilizing the skills of the offense to beat defensive schemes and game plans. Being able to adjust in game with certain play calls. An ability to work with the core offensive players including Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert. 

 

Top Tier Candidates

 

Kevin Patullo 

Current Position: Passing-game Coordinator, Philadelphia Eagles 

Why This Makes Sense: Has worked with Jalen Hurts in the passing game for the Eagles. Knows current schemes, so he’s vastly familiar with the offense. Also familiar with offensive personnel and passing games. Has tons of NFL experience as quarterbacks and passing-game coordinator coach. 

 

Darrell Bevell

Current Position: Quarterbacks Coach and Passing-game Coordinator, Miami Dolphins 

Why This Makes Sense: Was an offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks when they won the Super Bowl in 2014. Has worked with highly talented quarterbacks including Brett Farve, Russel Wilson, and Matthew Stafford. While working with the Dolphins they’ve had explosive passing and scoring offenses. 

 

Marcus Brady 

Current Position: Passing-game Coordinator. Los Angeles Chargers

Why This Makes Sense: Before going to the Chargers worked as Eagles senior offensive consultant. Has previous experience working with Jalen Hurts in 2023 where Hurts put up impressive offensive numbers. Is very familiar with the Eagles schemes and systems and gritty style of play. 

 

Middle Tier Candidates

 

Byron Leftwich 

Current Position: Former Offensive Coordinator, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2022

Why This Makes Sense: Was the Buccaneers offensive coordinator in 2020 when they won the Super Bowl. Worked with Tom Brady during his tenure with the Buccaneers. Played nine years as a quarterback in the NFL. Runs an offense that favors the skill sets of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. 

 

Josh McCown 

Current Position: Quarterbacks Coach, Minnesota Vikings 

Why This Makes Sense: A former Eagles quarterback that could help continue the development of Jalen Hurts. Worked with Sam Darnold this past season to resurrect his career as a quarterback in the NFL leading the Vikings to great success. Has familiarity with the offensive scheme and playing calling the Eagles run. 

 

Pep Hamilton 

Current Position: Former Offensive Coordinator, Houston Texans 2022

Why This Makes Sense: Collectively has 25 years of experience working at the college and pro levels. Also has four seasons under his belt as coaching in the NFL as an offensive coordinator. At the college level worked with Stanford who uses similar personnel formations as Eagles.

Tee Martin 

Current Position: Quarterbacks Coach, Baltimore Ravens 

Why This Makes Sense: Has experience playing quarterback at the college level for Tennessee and played numerous years in the NFL and CFL. Is versed with different schemes and play styles from his time as a player. Has also held various offensive roles as a coach during his time at USC. Was a key piece in developing Lamar Jackson into an elite quarterback. 

 

David Girardi 

Current Position: Quarterbacks Coach, Kansas City Chiefs

Why This Makes Sense: A former college quarterback playing at Geneva College. Has been with the Chiefs since 2018 and rose through the ranks of the organization. Took over as quarterbacks coach in 2023 and has worked with Patrick Mahomes. 

 

Chad O’Shea 

Current Position: Passing-game Coordinator and Receivers Coach, Cleveland Browns 

Why This Makes Sense: Has spent a decade working with Bill Belichick during his time with the Patriots from 2009 to 2018. Has been coaching the NFL in various positions and roles for over 20 years. Brings tons of offensive experience having been in these roles.
