Eagles Release Cornerback Leodis McKelvin

The Eagles have long been criticized for a poor secondary.   Former Eagles draft pick Eric Rowe rose into stardom after a trade that sent Rowe to the New England Patriots for a second round draft pick.   Instead, the Eagles turned to cornerback Leodis McKelvin, a transplant from Buffalo who followed former coach Jim Schwartz to Philadelphia, was the answer instead.   Today, the Eagles put an end to McKelvin's tenure in Philadelphia.

As NFL.com notes, McKelvin was ranked the 71st cover corner by Pro Football Focus.

The move frees up $3.2 million of salary cap space for the Eagles, of which the Eagles are in limited supply.   The Eagles are likely to cut more players in coming weeks to free up space.   One rumored possibility is long-time Eagle Jason Kelce.
