Nick Sirianni: Eagles Will Not Take Play Calling From Kevin Patullo

The Eagles were embarrassed once again on prime time as their offense managed a single decent drive prior to garbage time on Black Friday.

The loss extends a losing streak and drops the Eagles to 8-4 on the season and 4-4 over the last eight games – all but eliminating the possibility of the top seed they controlled less than a week ago and putting in question the division championship that they had the chance to lock down Friday had they won these two clearly winnable games.

With an offense that has yet to click now entering week 14, there were plenty of questions after the game about Offensive Coordinator Kevin Patullo, who took a high-scoring Super Bowl Championship offense and has created an offense that can’t top 10 points regularly with most of the same personnel.

Nick Sirianni doubled down, however, and said that Kevin Patullo will keep calling plays.

Sirianni went on to say at the presser that Patullo wouldn’t be removed from the duties because they need to fix more than one thing, but he’ll look at all possibilities (that don’t hurt anyone’s feelings like removing Patullo would, seemingly).

There’s plenty of reasons to call out Patullo for his failure this year, but unfortunately this loss isn’t one of them – in fact if may be the game he could point to most as not his fault.

For those who watched the game instead of the box score, Hurts was 9/18 with 110 yards, a touchdown, an interception, and a lost fumble in the game’s first 53.5 minutes ahead of garbage time. That featured numerous open receivers and easy first-down conversion opportunities, where 5 or 6 of the failed drives had the play there to keep the drive going but was missed by Hurts making the worst decision possible or blatantly missing the open receiver he was trying to throw to.

In fact, the biggest issue that could be pointed to in the Bears game was when Barkley started gashing the Bears for 24 yards on three carries and then they took it out of his hands to give it to Hurts in the midst of his worst game in two years, who promptly fumbled the ball away on a tush push just outside the red zone.

It’s an unfortunate smokescreen that Hurt’s god-awful play on Friday has provided the OC who has otherwise been an issue this season – especially coming off of games where the Eagles scored just 10 and 16 points, then scored 21 against Dallas in essentially one quarter before scoring nothing for the next three and losing the game in the process.

In fact, the Eagles offense now ranks 28th in the league.

It doesn’t matter what players you are a fan of or not, that’s straight trash for a team employing Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Dallas Goedert, and Saquon Barkley in addition to the offensive linemen the Eagles build around.

After today’s performance, the Eagles offense ranks 28th in success rate.

They are producing a positive play at a lower rate than offenses like the Saints and the Jets.

It’s the worst offensive success rate for an Eagles team through Week 13 in the last 20 years.

Sirianni is unwilling to do what needs to be done, so it will now come down to Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Lurie as to how much more of this garbage they have to witness before they step in.

In the middle of the season, there aren’t many options available – but Frank Reich was at Stanford as their interim coach and the school just hired their next coach with their last game of the season being tomorrow. Meanwhile, Doug Pederson isn’t currently coaching and said earlier this year he’d pick up the phone if the Eagles called.
