The Phillies have made an offer to J.T. Realmuto to keep their veteran catcher in Philadelphia for 2026. While terms are not known, league expectation is that Realmuto returns.
The Philadelphia Phillies have formally made an offer to JT Realmuto, according to reporting from Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. The exact terms haven’t been disclosed.
Realmuto, 34, remains one of the top catchers on the market thanks to his defense — and even after a down offensive season, his durability (134 games caught in 2025) and skill handling a pitching staff keep him in high demand.
Industry sources believe Realmuto is “expected” to return to the Phillies for 2026. Some suggest a shorter-term deal — possibly two years — may be more realistic than a lengthy contract, balancing his age and recent performance.
That said, re-signing him is not a guarantee. The Phillies front office has acknowledged that keeping all of their veteran free agents (including Realmuto) may be “impractical,” indicating budget and roster constraints could force tough choices.
Bottom line: Realmuto remains highly likely to stay but a deal depends on how the Phillies calibrate terms, money and roster priorities.
