Phillies Trade Rumors: Nick Castellanos on the Trade Block?
The calendar has turned to July, that means chaos in Major League Baseball as the 2025 trade deadline approaches.
MLB Insider Jim Bowden has contributed to the chaos with his latest piece in The Athletic. Bowden, a former MLB general manager and Sirius XM host, wrote that “multiple GM’s think there’s a chance” the Phillies could move on from outfielder Nick Castellanos at the MLB trade deadline. Bowden notes, the Phillies would need to acquire an additional outfield bat in order to make such a move.
The Castellanos trade rumors are nothing new. The team reportedly made the former All-Star outfielder “available” during the offseason with a caveat that any other team would take on all or part of his salary. Castellanos signed a 5-year/$100MM contract prior to the 2022 season and is under contract through the 2026 MLB season.
The 2025 MLB Trade Deadline is Thursday, July 31 at 6:00 PM/EDT.
Here’s “what we know” so far:
- The Phillies will be buyers (thanks, genius!)
- The ballclub will be looking at adding a bat and at least one reliever
- We know nothing about nothing! It’s all rumor and innuendo
