Andre Drummond

In a move that was widely expected, Andre Drummond exercised his $5 million player option for the 2025-26 season. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype was first to report the news.

Drummond averaged 7.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 0.5 blocks and 1.0 steals while playing 40 games for the Philadelphia 76ers last season. Despite the appearance of his solid overall numbers, it was clear age was starting to catch up to the 13-year veteran. Rather than hitting free agency, Drummond chose to exercise his player option to stay in Philadelphia next season.

While Drummond remains under contract with the Sixers, there is a possibility he begins next season elsewhere. The Sixers, tight up against the salary cap, could benefit from trading away the two-time All-Star. They could either dump his salary or package him together as part of a bigger trade.

If he remains on the roster going into next season, it is unclear what his role would be in the rotation. Drummond was limited to 40 games last season due to a toe injury he suffered in late December. In his absence, Adem Bona received consistent playing time. Bona has a strong case to be the Sixers’ primary option for backup center minutes. Over his final 15 games of the season, the Nigerian native averaged 13.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.1 steals while shooting 71.1% from the field.

Drummond, by exercising his player option, is set to continue his career with the Sixers. However, it might only be a matter of time until he finds himself wearing another team’s uniform.
