The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs are set to meet in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, February 9 from the Superdome in New Orleans, LA. The Birds booked their trip to NOLA with a blowout win over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game. On the other side of the ledger, the Chiefs needed some late game magic to edge the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game

A rematch of Super Bowl LVII, the Chiefs will be looking to win their third consecutive Lombardi trophy, and the Eagles will be looking to avenge the painful loss from two seasons ago. We’re also likely to see a uniform rematch on the field for Super Bowl LIX.

Thanks to the longstanding NFL tradition of alternating the “home” team in the Super Bowl, the Eagles will have the first choice on jersey color for the game. The Birds have worn their standard midnight green jersey/white pants/white socks throughout their run to the Super Bowl. It’s hard to see them changing now. As for the Chiefs, they tend to favor their white jersey/red pants/white socks combination. However, there’s always a chance they could switch it up and go white/white/red.

What About Kelly Green?

Yes, it would be tremendous if the Birds busted out their Kelly green uniforms for Super Bowl LIX but that (likely) can’t happen. Because of marketing, the NFL forbids teams from wearing any alternate uniform combination in the Super Bowl.

But what about the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII?!

Yes, the Rams were able to wear their tremendous throwback uniform in Super Bowl LIII but that was due to an identity crisis. The Rams had returned to LA a few seasons earlier and were in the midst of a uniform change from their St. Louis gold uniforms to what they presently wear. In an effort to avoid a horrific looking Super Bowl game, the NFL gave LA permission to wear their throwback design in the big game.

The only other team to wear an alternate/throwback uniform in the Super Bowl was the 1994 San Francisco 49ers. The Niners wore their white drop shadow alternate over white pants in their 49-26 thrashing of the San Diego Chargers. Super Bowl XXIX concluded the NFL’s 75th Anniversary season which saw teams wear throwback/alternate uniforms throughout the year.
