Calgary Flames
Last week, it was already known that the President’s Trophy winners, the Tampa Bay Lightning, were eliminated, as were the Pittsburgh Penguins. Six other teams have joined, and many of them were near the top of the regular-season standings.
The Tampa Bay Lightning, a team that tied an NHL record with 62 wins in the regular season, were swept by the Columbus Blue Jackets in four games. The Pittsburgh Penguins, the Stanley Cup champions in 2016 and 2017, were also swept by the New York Islanders in four games.
Overtime has not been kind to the Flyers this season, and that run continued as T.J. Brodie scored at 1:59 of overtime to hand the Flyers their sixth straight loss, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center.
A disappointing and trying season reaches its halfway point as the Flyers play host to the Calgary Flames. Game time is at 1 p.m.
Johnny Gaudreau got the game-winning goal in overtime to hand the Flyers a gut-wrenching 6-5 defeat in to the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night.
For the Flyers to avoid more significant changes as the season progresses, finding some consistency in the results is imperative. The next chance for a victory comes on Wednesday night against the Pacific Division leading Calgary Flames.
