The Philadelphia Flyers begin a back-to-back before the holiday break with a trap game against the lowly Sabres in Buffalo tonight.

Robert Hagg scored his first NHL goal and Sean Couturier scored the only goal of the third period for his career-high 16th goal in a single season to give the Flyers a 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Center.

It wasn’t necessarily a bad game for the Flyers as a whole, but after getting superb goaltending and catching some breaks and bounces along the way to a six-game winning streak, they ran into a team that was better defensively and elite between the pipes.

The Philadelphia Flyers could not match history as the Los Angeles Kings sent them back to reality with a 4-1 loss.

For the Flyers to claim their sixth straight win, it would take a little extra time. It may have been the Flyers holiday celebration, but the Flyers added a ghost story as well. Shayne Gostisbehere scored to tie the game in the second period and then added the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Flyers a 2-1 overtime win on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Center.
