There are some great playoff moments from 50 years of Flyers hockey, some of which we will relive in a couple days here, but today marks a special anniversary in Flyers franchise history, arguably the greatest game the team has ever played. On the Sunday afternoon of May 19, 1974, the Flyers became Stanley Cup Champions.

Canada, Russia and Finland all advanced to Saturday’s semi-final round. Jake Voracek and Radko Gudas of Czech Republic were eliminated.

Pool play came to a close at the World Championships on Tuesday, setting up Thursday’s single-elimination quarterfinals round. In all, nine of the 10 Flyers that went to the tournament will still be playing in the tournament come Thursday.
