The Flyers held off a late surge by the Capitals to secure a 2-1 win, ending their losing streak at six games.
Just last Thursday, the Flyers had a 3-2 lead with under four minutes to play against the Washington Capitals, only to have it slip away in the final minutes of a 5-3 loss. The two teams meet again on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues got the lead back 42 seconds after the Flyers tied the game on a goal by Vladimir Tarasenko and held things down the rest of the way in a 4-1 defeat for the Flyers on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Center for their sixth straight loss.
It’s a quick turnaround as the Flyers get back on the ice on Tuesday night, this time to take on the St. Louis Blues.
After scoring with under five minutes to play to tie the game, Brett Pesce got the game-winning goal with 18 seconds left in overtime to hand the Flyers a fifth straight loss, 4-3, at Wells Fargo Center.
It hasn’t been an easy schedule for the Flyers, having to go up against three of the top four teams in the Metropolitan Division in consecutive games. They will do so for the third and final time against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday afternoon.
It’s more of the same on the ice for the Flyers, with four straight losses out of the break. Off the ice, rumors are swirling around Flyers captain Claude Giroux. The guys discuss the reports, where Giroux could go, and what’s a fair return for him in a trade.
A pair of goals by Garnet Hathaway separated by 1:45 turned the 3-2 lead into a 4-3 deficit with 1:12 remaining. An empty-net goal sealed the deal in the Flyers fourth straight loss.
The next eight games come on home ice for the Flyers, starting on Thursday night as they take on the Washington Capitals.
Claude Giroux confirmed that he has not spoken with Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher regarding a trade yet. With over a month to go until the trade deadline, there is no rush. Deadlines breed action. Giroux’s tone and demeanor said it all. He’s in his final weeks in Philadelphia.
