The Flyers finally make their debut on home ice in the 2017-18 season after four difficult road games to start the season. The opponent is a red-hot offensive juggernaut in the Washington Capitals, a team that through five games has been lighting up the scoresheet.
The Flyers named both Valtteri Filppula and Andrew MacDonald as alternate captains of the team, after a players vote in a meeting held on Tuesday. Both players will split duties between home and road games.
Whether or not it’s how the team improves on last season or the youthful injection of talent coming up as another phase of Ron Hextall’s rebuild, there will be plenty to watch out for.

GM Ron Hextall announced on Friday that goalie Anthony Stolarz underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus on his left knee on Thursday and will be out indefinitely.
The Flyers announced the dates and roster for training camp, set to open next Friday, Sept. 15. In total, 61 players will participate in training camp — 37 forwards, 17 defensemen and seven goaltenders.
