Brooks restructures contract because Foles ‘deserved more money’

Since the beginning of the offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles have been making trades, moving on from players and restructuring contracts in order to have enough cap room to sign their draft class and potentially another free agent or two. They have already restructured the contracts of Lane Johnson, Zach Ertz and Nick Foles and now Brandon Brooks has restructured his contract to be more cap-friendly. 

Source: the Eagles created $6.37M in cap space by reworking the deal of Pro Bowl G Brandon Brooks. He converted base salary into bonuses, dropping his cap number to $4.768M for this year.

As for the reason Brooks agreed to do this? To make sure his Super Bowl MVP quarterback could get rewarded. The Eagles gave Foles a $2 million signing bonus with some incentives during the season as well if he hits certain benchmarks.

Brooks had an original cap hit of over $11.1 million this season, so the restructuring bumps the Eagles cap space from $1.6 million to just around $8 million. The former third-round pick from the 2012 NFL Draft was selected to his first career Pro Bowl during the Eagles' Super Bowl winning season.
