After 15-2 loss, Gabe Kapler guarantees Phillies playoff berth

I'm thinking commenting in a post-game press conference that your team will make the postseason after losing 15-2 to the Atlanta Braves Saturday might be a tad bit too soon.

But that's exactly what Phillies manager Gabe Kapler did on Saturday night, asked by reporters what his reasoning on some of the decisions he made in just his third game as a major league manager.

Kapler took full responsibility for communication snafu between dugout and bullpen. He said he needed to do a better job. He also said Phillies would make postseason in 2018.

It's ultimately good to see Kapler holding himself accountable after the loss the Phils took on Saturday night, but ending the statement on a non-sensical guarantee is a little too much.

If you thought putting infielder Pedro Florimon in to pitch in the bottom of the eighth was one way to "Be Bold," guaranteeing a playoff berth just three games into a 162-game season is sure to take the cake.
