Tulane Defeats Temple, Delays Owls’ Hopes Of Being Bowl-Eligible

Philadelphia: There is a certain feel in the air when you get to send off your senior players & that is what we had on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field as the Temple Owls would do battle with 24th-ranked Tulane Green Wave.

Temple comes into the game needing a win to be bowl-eligible.

How the game went:

Tulane would win the toss & deferred to the 2nd half.

Temple would start the game with the ball & went 3 and out. Tulane would jump out to a 10-0 lead, which featured a 2-play TD drive.

The Owls would get things going late in the 1st quarter with a touchdown drive, which saw QB Evan Simon connect with Peter Clark. The touchdown would be Evan Simon’s 23rd TD of the season, which ties a school record.

Temple would be down 10-7 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Tulane attempted to run the tush push but was penalized for a false start. Later in the second quarter, Tulane increased the lead to 17-7. Then, as the 2nd quarter came to a close, the Green Wave would add to the lead with FG for a 20-7 lead.

The Owls would try to get points before the half & they came up short. Tulane would take a 20-7 lead into halftime.

What could Temple do to shake things up to get back into the game?

The Green Wave got ball to begin the 3rd quarter and drove down & increased the lead with a FG, 23-7.

The defense for the Green Wave was making things challenging for the Owls to move the ball down the field.

The Owls defense did its best to keep the Green Wave out of the endzone and held them to field goals.

Ultimately, the Green Wave made it 26-7 with 53 seconds left in the 3rd quarter.

The Owls would find the endzone as Evan Simon found Colin Chase from 2 yards out. They went for but missed on the 2-point play – Green Wave still led 26-13 with 12:56 left in 4th.

The Owls tried to make a comeback, but Tulane made it hard for the Owls. Tulane would respond to the Temple touchdown and score a TD with a successful 2-point play for a 34-13 lead with 9:55 left in the 4th.

The FG kicker for Tulane would bang in a 52-yard FG for a the eventual 37-13 lead, his 5th FG of the game,

He would outscore the Owls offense.

A crowd of 13,336 would see the Owls have an opportunity to send their senior class off with a win over a ranked opponent, but they would fall to Tulane 37-13.
