Austin Williford & Khaafiq Myers lead Saint Joseph’s to win over Delaware State

Philadelphia, PA: As everyone prepares for the Christmas holiday, college basketball continues, and that is what we saw on Thursday night as the Saint Joseph’s Hawks took on the Delaware State Hornets at Hagan Arena. The Hawks come into the game off a loss to Syracuse, while Delaware State made its way to Hawk Hill off a win over Longwood.

How the game went:
The Hawks would get the scoring started with 3-pointers from Haskins & Delaware State would respond with 2 at the Foul line. The Hawks would make their first 3 shots of the game & they were all 3 pointers for the 9-4 lead & they would head into the 1st Media timeout leading 11-4. Delaware State would attempt to keep the game close as they would get the lead down to 15-12 with 11:53 left in 1st half. The Hawks began to take flight & at one point had a 29-18 lead with 4:26 left in 1st half. Later on in the 1st half, the Hawks would have good defense as Justice Ajogbor with a block & that would lead to a Shot Clock Violation for Delaware State & the Hawks lead 31-18 with 2:35 left in 1st half.

The Hawks would have 5 blocks in the 1st half & Dasear Haskins has 2 of them. The Hawks would take a 33-18 lead into halftime. There would be at least 6 separate times the Hawks had to add to the lead but could not finish.

Going into the 2nd half, what could Delaware State do to get back into the game after looking sloppy?, The Hornets would come  and had a couple times where they had the lead down to 13 on 3 seperate times with the last one being 44-31 with 10:39 left.

The Defense by the Hawks was the story of the night as they woukld have 9 Blocks, YES you are reading that correctly. Later on in the second half, the Hawks would  get the lead as high as 26 at 61-35 with 5:15 left.  As the final hporn sounds, the Hawks were in control of this game from the start as they take down Delaware State 67-51

What is next:
With the win, the Hawks are now 7-4 on the season &  will not prepare for Costal Carolina on December 22 while Delaware State is now 4-9 & looking to rebound from this game as they take on Holy Family on December 21.
