Dallas Goedert, Cowboys 2023

According to ESPN insider Tim McManus, the Philadelphia Eagles are unlikely to retain tight end Dallas Goedert unless he is willing to take a pay cut.

The latest report comes a few weeks after reports surfaced of the Birds’ willingness to trade their Super Bowl winning offensive weapon.

Goedert is entering the final year of a four-year/$57 million contract which includes a $1.255 million base salary and escalating bonus money. In all, the 30-year-old will account for $11.7 million against the 2025-2026 NFL salary cap. The Eagles’ second round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Goedert’s annual average value — $14.2 million— makes him the fifth highest paid tight end in the NFL.

The South Dakota State product has been an integral part of the team since arriving prior to the 2018-19 NFL season. Including regular seasons and postseason, Goedert has hauled in 401 passes for 4,647 yards and 28 touchdowns. He is also an above average blocker, something that was key as Saquon Barkley and company put up a conference best 3,048 yards on the ground.

As far as a trade goes, the team is reportedly looking for a 2025 fourth round pick and are open to picks in 2026 and/or 2027. If a trade doesn’t materialize, the Eagles could choose to cut Goedert with a post-June 1 designation. That move would only net GM Howie Roseman about $4 million in cap space.

Goedert could choose to renegotiate his contract and remain with the team. However, that seems like the least likely outcome.
