According to “Airport” John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, there is mutual interest in a reunion between the Philadelphia Eagles and veteran cornerback Darius Slay. Slay, 34, was placed on waivers by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday, less than one season after signing a 1-year, $10 million contract.

In his lone season with Pittsburgh, Slay appeared in 10 games and recorded 36 total tackles, three passes defensed, and one fumble recovery. While his standard stats were modest at best, PFF’s grading offers additional context: Slay posted a 58.6 coverage grade for the 2025 season, though a mid-season snapshot had him at 56.4, allowing 20 receptions on 28 targets. His Week 4 outing versus Minnesota was a low point (55.8 coverage grade, 57.5 overall), but he stabilized later, earning a 71.2 overall grade in Week 12 against Chicago, including 72.5 tackling, 71.9 run defense, and 66.2 coverage.

Beyond stats, Slay brings significant familiarity with Vic Fangio’s defensive system. That experience could make him a more reliable option than current Eagles cornerbacks like Adoree’ Jackson and especially Kelee Ringo, who has struggled with consistency and coverage assignments. Slay’s leadership and understanding of Fangio’s schemes may offer the Eagles a short-term solution while shoring up a secondary that has experienced rotation and coverage issues.

With Slay potentially available, Philadelphia’s offseason secondary issues could be resolved quickly, potentially giving the Eagles a boost as they fight for the top seed in the playoffs.
