Jan 21, 2025; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Philadelphia Flyers celebrate win against the Detroit Red Wings in overtime at Wells Fargo Center.

In the final seconds of overtime, it was anyone’s guess who had scored the game-winning goal for the Flyers. All that mattered was the puck was in.

In the end, it was Rasmus Ristolainen who poked the puck across the goal line to be the overtime hero in a 2-1 Flyers win over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Center, marking their third straight win and extending their points streak to six games.

The first period featured limited stoppages and only a handful of scoring chances for either side. Through 20 minutes, shots were 8-6 Flyers.

The Flyers broke through for the first goal of the game at 5:21 of the second. Joel Farabee finished off a nice pass by Sean Couturier on the backhand for his seventh goal of the season to make it 1-0.

That was the only goal of the period, as the Red Wings held a 14-11 lead in shots through two periods.

Just 30 seconds into the third, the Red Wings tied the game up. Ben Chiarot finished off his second of the season off a pass from Lucas Raymond to even things at one.

The Red Wings out-shot the Flyers, 13-10, in the third period, as the game headed to overtime.

In overtime, the Flyers moved up ice in the final seconds on an odd-man rush, with Farabee setting up Owen Tippett for a chance that sat on the goal line after being slowed by Alex Lyon and Moritz Seider. Both Ristolainen and Farabee came in to put home the rebound, with Ristolainen touching it first to score his second of the season with 26 seconds left in overtime.

Sam Ersson made 27 saves on 28 shots in the win. Lyon made 24 saves on 26 shots in the loss.

Farabee had two points for the Flyers.

The Flyers go back on the road on Thursday night to take on the New York Rangers at 7 p.m.
