Former Phillies outfielder Cedric Hunter suspended 50 games for amphetamines

Former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Cedric Hunter was suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball on Wednesday for testing positive for amphetamine, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien.

The Decatur, Georgia, native played in just 13 games last season with the Phillies. In 36 plate appearances, he had three hits, one being a solo home run, and three runs scored en route to a sub-par .088/.139/.176 slash.

Prior to being named to the Phillies' 2016 Opening Day roster, Hunter, 28, had just six Major League games of playing experience under his belt, all of which occurred in late March and early April of 2011 with the San Diego Padres.

Hunter was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on April 25, removed from the 40-man roster after clearing waivers, in favor of David Lough. Lough fared slightly better, batting .239/.342/.313 with 16 hits over 79 plate appearances in 2016.

Hunter declared free agency on Oct. 3.
