Flyers Postgame Report: Fedotov, Flyers Best Hellebuyck, Jets in Goalie Duel

The last time the Flyers got a win from a goalie not named Sam Ersson was on Dec. 12. Aleksei Kolosov was in goal that night, delivering his best performance against Detroit.

Ivan Fedotov‘s last win came on Nov. 29 in arguably his best performance of the season against the New York Rangers.

Collectively, the Flyers backups had made 10 straight starts without a win. That all ended on Saturday night, as Fedotov out-dueled the NHL’s top netminder in Connor Hellebuyck and the NHL’s top team in the Winnipeg Jets in a 2-1 shootout victory.

The Jets struck first just shy of the halfway mark of the first period. At 9:58, Mark Scheifele was on the right end of a friendly bounce, burying a chance from in front for his 34th goal of the season.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 14-7 Flyers.

Earlier in the second, the Flyers tied the game as Jamie Drysdale got space in the slot and ripped a shot past Hellebuyck for his third goal of the season.

That was the lone goal of the second, as both Hellebuyck and Fedotov handled the rest of the shots that came their way. Through two periods, shots were 28-19 Flyers.

The third period was more of the same from the goalies, as the Jets made a stronger push and had two late power plays. Hellebuyck and Fedotov held things even at one through the third and five minutes of overtime, sending the game to a shootout.

Matvei Michkov had the lone tally in the shootout in the second round. Fedotov stopped the first two bids and Gabriel Vilardi put his attempt wide to seal the result.

Fedotov made 29 saves on 30 shots in regulation and overtime. Hellebuyck made 31 saves on 32 shots.

The Flyers are back in action on Tuesday night to kick off a seven-game homestand against the Calgary Flames at 7 p.m.
