Phillies Acquire Utility Player Brad Miller from Yankees

Just minutes after the Philadelphia Phillies' annual Phillies Phestival concluded on Thursday, the club announced that it has acquired infielder Brad Miller from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations. Miller is expected to join the Phillies this weekend in their crucial road series against the Atlanta Braves.

Miller, 29, is a seven-year veteran that over seven six-plus seasons, 693 games and 2,545 plate appearances has slashed .240/.313/.409 with 106 doubles, 25 triples, 76 home runs, 272 RBI, 241 walks and 599 strikeouts. The Orlando, Florida, native is just three seasons removed from slugging 30 home runs and 81 RBI over 152 games with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Miller is owed just $1 million this season; he will be added to the 25-man roster along with Roman Quinn (groin), who returns to make up a new-look Phillies bench. Corresponding moves are not yet known.
As The Philadelphia Inquirer's Matt Breen notes, Miller slugged a .994 OPS this season with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate; he can play 2B, SS, 3B, LF and RF. Miller is now in his fourth organization this season (Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Yankees and Phillies).
