The IronPigs continue to scoop up awards.

The team had the reigning player of the month in the International League for April and they keep the award with the team in May.

While Otto Kemp has continued to be productive, he’s cooled down a bit. Meanwhile Buddy Kennedy, re-signed to a minor league deal after a competition in Spring Training, has helped to further power the offense.

After an average start, Kennedy’s seasons stats are now up to .300/.397/.474. He earns the Player of the Month Award for playing 24 of the team’s potential 27 games during the month of May.

During that time, he recorded a slash line of .358/.426/.632 with an OPS of 1.058. He recorded 34 hits with 18 runs scored and 24 RBIs. He added 10 walks and two stolen bases during that time.

On the pitching side of things, MLB’s No. 2 overall prospect Bubba Chandler earned the monthly award in April. He was dethroned by Mick Abel, who had fallen out of the MLB Top 100.

Abel has, of course, impressed in two starts at the Major League level and will get a few more chances until Aaron Nola’s return sends him back to the minors to continue to improve his skillsets.

Even in the minors, 2025 has been a breakout season for Abel, the best of his career to date.

He wins Pitcher of the Month honors after making five starts for the league’s top team and going 28.2 innings during that time. He allowed just three earned runs (0.94 ERA on the month) and limited opposing hitters to just a .183 batting average.

He also recorded 40 strikeouts over those innings while walking just 13.

Abel’s minor league stats on the season are now a 2.21 ERA across 10 starts between his two call-ups to the major leagues.

The IronPigs continue to hold the best record in the minor leagues. Across A and higher ball, you’ll find two teams with 38 wins and one with 37. Those teams are beat out by the IronPigs, who are up to 43 wins already. They seem destined for the postseason, with a seven-game lead on the next best team in the International League and a +120 run differential on the season.
