Report: 76ers Acquire Jared Butler, Multiple Second-Round Picks From Wizards
The Philadelphia 76ers are continuing to wheel and deal in the final hours before the NBA trade deadline. They are reportedly sending Reggie Jackson and a 2026 first-round pick to the Washington Wizards. In exchange, Philadelphia is receiving Jared Butler and four second-round picks. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype was first to report the swapping of draft compensation. Marc Stein was first to report the exchange of Jackson and Butler.
The final details of the trade are as follows:
- Philadelphia receives: Butler, more favorable of the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns’ 2027 second-round picks, 2028 Warriors second-round pick, the more favorable of the Suns and Portland Trail Blazers’ 2030 second-round picks, 2030 Wizards second-round pick
- Washington receives: Jackson, least favorable of Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers’ 2026 first-round picks
Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice was first to report the specifics of the draft compensation being swapped between the Sixers and Wizards.
Jackson was signed by the Sixers last offseason with the goal of adding depth to the guard rotation. He largely struggled in Philadelphia, averaging just 4.4 points while shooting 39.1% from the field and 33.8% from 3-point range.
Butler, a second-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, bounced around multiple teams before beginning to establish himself this season. The 24-year old is averaging 6.9 points and 2.6 assists per game in just 11.3 minutes per contest. He has also flashed potential as an outside shooter, knocking down 36.6% of his attempts from long distance this season. Sixers fans might recognize Butler from when he torched Philadelphia earlier this season to the tune of 26 points and seven assists off the bench.
In terms of the draft compensation involved, the first-round pick the Sixers are giving up is likely going to fall towards the end of the round. After expending two second-round picks in the KJ Martin deal, the Sixers effectively replenished their draft capital.
Butler is currently on a two-way contract. The Sixers are reportedly waiving Pete Nance to make room on the roster for Butler.
